Description

Rat PROC ELISA Kit

Rat PROC ELISA kits are used to detect Protein C (PROC) in plasma and other biological samples. Protein C is a vitamin K-dependent serine protease zymogen made in the liver and circulating in plasma. When thrombin binds thrombomodulin on the endothelial surface, with help from the endothelial protein C receptor, protein C is converted to activated protein C. Activated protein C, together with protein S as a cofactor, inactivates the clotting factors Va and VIIIa in the presence of calcium and phospholipid, which limits thrombin generation and keeps clotting in check. It also has cytoprotective and anti-inflammatory effects and strengthens endothelial barrier function. Inherited protein C deficiency is a recognized cause of thrombophilia with recurrent venous thrombosis, and levels may also fall in liver disease, sepsis and disseminated intravascular coagulation.
