Description

Rat PYGM ELISA Kit

Rat PYGM ELISA kits are used to detect Glycogen Phosphorylase, Muscle (PYGM) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. PYGM is the muscle isoform of glycogen phosphorylase, also known as myophosphorylase, and is expressed mainly in skeletal muscle. It is an allosteric enzyme that catalyses the rate-limiting step of glycogen breakdown, the phosphorolytic release of glucose-1-phosphate from glycogen, thereby supplying fuel for muscle contraction and contributing to glucose homeostasis. Its activity is regulated by phosphorylation and by allosteric effectors that reflect the energy state of the cell. Loss-of-function variants cause glycogen storage disease type V, known as McArdle disease, which presents with exercise intolerance, cramps, muscle weakness and recurrent myoglobinuria. Because the enzyme can leak from damaged muscle, PYGM is also of interest as a marker of muscle injury.
