Description

Rat SERT ELISA Kit

Rat SERT ELISA kits are used to detect Serotonin Transporter (SERT) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. SERT, the serotonin transporter encoded by SLC6A4, is a sodium-dependent membrane transporter that moves serotonin from the extracellular space into cells, which limits its signalling. In the brain it is found on raphe neurons, where it clears serotonin from the synaptic cleft back into the presynaptic terminal, and it also acts in developing cortical neurons to support the organisation of sensory circuits. In the gut it clears serotonin in enterocytes and supports enteric neurogenesis, and in platelets it takes up serotonin from plasma for storage in dense granules. SERT is the target of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor antidepressants, and variation in SLC6A4 has been associated with mood and anxiety disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
