Description

Rat Tau ELISA Kit

Rat Tau ELISA kits are used to detect Tau Proteins (Tau) in biological samples. Tau, encoded by the MAPT gene, is a microtubule-associated protein found mainly in the axons of neurons. It promotes microtubule assembly and stability, and may help establish and maintain neuronal polarity by linking axonal microtubules with components of the neural plasma membrane. Shorter isoforms are thought to allow cytoskeletal plasticity, whereas longer isoforms may favour stabilisation. In Alzheimer disease, hyperphosphorylated tau forms the paired helical filaments that make up neurofibrillary tangles, and reduced O-GlcNAcylation has been linked to increased phosphorylation. Variants in MAPT cause frontotemporal dementia, and tau species in tissue and fluids are studied as markers of neurodegeneration in Alzheimer disease and related tauopathies.
