Description

Rat TM ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Rat TM ELISA kits are used to detect Thrombomodulin (TM) in plasma and other biological samples. TM, or thrombomodulin (CD141), is a transmembrane glycoprotein found mainly on the surface of vascular endothelial cells, where it acts as a key regulator of coagulation, fibrinolysis, inflammation and angiogenesis. It serves as a cofactor for thrombin, changing its specificity so that it activates protein C and starts the anticoagulant activated protein C pathway. It also accelerates activation of carboxypeptidase B2, which dampens fibrinolysis, alters the cleavage specificity of protease-activated receptor 1 to protect the endothelial barrier, and limits inflammation by sequestering HMGB1. A soluble form is released from damaged endothelium, and altered levels may indicate endothelial injury in sepsis, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Variants in the gene have been associated with thrombophilia and atypical haemolytic uraemic syndrome.
