Description

Rat TSP-1 ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Rat TSP-1 ELISA kits are used to detect Thrombospondin-1 (TSP-1) in plasma and other biological samples. TSP-1, or thrombospondin-1, is a large homotrimeric, calcium-binding adhesive glycoprotein secreted by platelets, endothelial cells, fibroblasts, macrophages and many other cells, and it is stored in platelet alpha-granules. It mediates cell-to-cell and cell-to-matrix interactions and is multifunctional, with roles in inflammation, angiogenesis, wound healing, reactive oxygen species and nitric oxide signalling, apoptosis, senescence and cardiovascular and metabolic homeostasis. It is a well-known inhibitor of angiogenesis, partly through its receptor CD36, and it activates latent TGF-beta. It also negatively modulates dendritic cell activation and cytokine release as part of an autocrine feedback loop. Altered TSP-1 has been associated with tumour progression, diabetic complications, fibrosis, atherosclerosis and thrombosis.
