Description

Rat ucOC ELISA Kit

Rat ucOC ELISA kits are used to detect Undercarboxylated Osteocalcin (ucOC) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. ucOC, or undercarboxylated osteocalcin, is the form of osteocalcin in which glutamate residues lack gamma-carboxylation. Osteocalcin is a small protein made by osteoblasts and is among the most abundant non-collagenous proteins of bone matrix. Vitamin K-dependent carboxylation increases its affinity for hydroxyapatite, whereas the undercarboxylated form is released more readily into the circulation, where it acts as a hormone. It has been reported to stimulate insulin secretion and beta cell proliferation, improve insulin sensitivity, raise testosterone production and influence muscle function. High circulating ucOC has been associated with low vitamin K status and fracture risk, and it is also studied in diabetes and metabolic syndrome.
