Human BLyS/TNFSF13B/BAFF Recombinant Protein

B lymphocyte stimulator (BLyS); also known as TNFSF13B; CD257 and BAFF; is a single-pass type II membrane protein; which belongs to the tumour necrosis factor family. BAFF is highly expressed in peripheral blood Leukocytes and is only present in monocytes and macrophages. BAFF is a cytokine and serves as a ligand for receptors TNFRSF13B (TACI); TNFRSF17 (BCMA); and TNFRSF13C (BAFFR). The activation of these receptors is important for B cell development, homeostasis, and antigen selection. BLyS levels affect survival signals and selective apoptosis of autoantibody-producing B cells. BAFF acts as a powerful B-cell activator, and it has been found to be essential in the proliferation and differentiation of B cells. When BlyS is overexpressed in mice, both clinical and serological symptoms of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and Sjogren's syndrome can be observed (SS). BLyS is an attractive therapeutic target in human rheumatic diseases. The potential of BLyS to control both the size and variety of the peripheral B cell compartment opens the possibility that BLyS and antagonists thereof may serve as the foundation for a three-pronged therapy. As an agonist, BLyS protein may improve humoral immunity in individuals with congenital or acquired immunodeficiencies caused by a viral infection or cancer therapy. Human BLyS/TNFSF13B/BAFF Recombinant Protein is a highly pure recombinant protein developed by Assay Genie for use in a range of applications.
