Human VRK1 Recombinant Protein

VRK1 is a member of the vaccinia-related kinase (VRK) family of serine/threonine protein kinases. Serine/threonine protein kinases are tumor suppressors that regulate the activity of AMP-activated protein kinase family members, thus playing a role in various functions such as cell metabolism, cell polarization, apoptosis, and DNA damage response. Protein kinase domain-containing protein VRK1 is found in the nucleus. The VRK1 gene is abundantly expressed in human tissues and has a higher level of expression in actively dividing cells, such as those found in the testis, thymus, fetal liver, and carcinomas. VRK1 is a serine/threonine kinase that phosphorylates 'Thr-18' of p53/TP53, preventing the interaction between p53/TP53 and MDM2. PCH1, also known as pontocerebellar hypoplasia with infantile spinal muscular atrophy or pontocerebellar hypoplasia with anterior horn cell disease, is caused by a defect in VRK1. PCH1 is marked by an abnormally tiny cerebellum and brainstem; motor dysfunction beginning in the womb that affects both central and peripheral muscles; gliosis, which resembles infantile spinal muscular atrophy, and anterior horn cell degeneration. Human VRK1 Recombinant Protein is a highly pure recombinant protein developed by Assay Genie for use in a range of applications.
