Description

Ret ELISA Kit

Ret ELISA kits are used to detect Retinol (Ret) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. Retinol is the alcohol form of vitamin A, a fat-soluble vitamin obtained from the diet as preformed retinyl esters from animal foods or as carotenoid precursors from plants. It is stored mainly in the liver and transported in the blood bound to retinol-binding protein, from which it is delivered to tissues and converted to retinal and then to retinoic acid. Retinal is the chromophore of the visual cycle, while retinoic acid acts through nuclear receptors to regulate gene expression in embryonic development, epithelial differentiation and immune function. Deficiency may cause night blindness, xerophthalmia and increased susceptibility to infection, whereas excess intake may be toxic, so retinol is measured in nutritional and clinical research.
