Description

Sheep vWF ELISA Kit

Sheep vWF ELISA kits are used to detect Von Willebrand Factor (vWF) in plasma and other biological samples. vWF, or von Willebrand factor, is a large multimeric plasma glycoprotein synthesised by endothelial cells and megakaryocytes and stored in Weibel-Palade bodies and platelet alpha-granules. It is important for haemostasis: at sites of vascular injury it forms a molecular bridge between subendothelial collagen and the platelet receptor complex GPIb-IX-V, promoting platelet adhesion. It also acts as a carrier and chaperone for coagulation factor VIII, protecting it from premature clearance. Quantitative or qualitative defects cause von Willebrand disease, the most common inherited bleeding disorder. Because vWF is released on endothelial activation, raised levels have been associated with endothelial dysfunction, thrombosis, inflammation and cardiovascular risk.
