Description

TCA ELISA Kit

TCA ELISA kits are used to detect Taurocholic Acid (TCA) in biological samples. TCA, taurocholic acid, is a primary conjugated bile acid formed in the liver when cholic acid is joined to the amino acid taurine. Conjugation makes it more water soluble and strongly amphipathic, so it acts as an efficient detergent that emulsifies dietary fat and fat-soluble vitamins for digestion and absorption in the small intestine. It is secreted in bile, reabsorbed in the ileum through the transporter ASBT and returned to the liver in the enterohepatic circulation, while a fraction is deconjugated and metabolised by gut bacteria. It also acts as a signalling molecule through receptors such as FXR and TGR5. Raised levels have been associated with cholestasis and liver injury, and it is studied in liver, gut and metabolic research.
