Description

THB ELISA Kit

THB ELISA kits are used to detect Tetrahydrobiopterin (THB) in serum, plasma, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. THB, tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4), is a pteridine cofactor synthesized from guanosine triphosphate through GTP cyclohydrolase I, 6-pyruvoyl-tetrahydropterin synthase and sepiapterin reductase, and recycled by dihydropteridine reductase. It is an essential cofactor for the aromatic amino acid hydroxylases, which produce tyrosine, L-DOPA and serotonin precursors, and for all isoforms of nitric oxide synthase and alkylglycerol monooxygenase. When BH4 is depleted, endothelial nitric oxide synthase becomes uncoupled and generates superoxide instead of nitric oxide. Deficiency, due to inherited enzyme defects, causes hyperphenylalaninemia and neurotransmitter deficits, and low BH4 has been associated with endothelial dysfunction, diabetes and neurological disease. A synthetic form, sapropterin, is used as a therapy.
