Description

TXA2 ELISA Kit

TXA2 ELISA kits are used to detect Thromboxane A2 (TXA2) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. Thromboxane A2 (TXA2) is a lipid mediator of the eicosanoid family, synthesised from arachidonic acid through the sequential actions of cyclooxygenase and thromboxane synthase, mainly in activated platelets. It is a potent promoter of platelet aggregation and vasoconstriction, acting through the thromboxane receptor, and so contributes to thrombus formation and the regulation of vascular tone. The molecule is highly unstable, with a half-life of roughly 30 seconds in aqueous solution before it is hydrolysed to the inactive thromboxane B2. Increased thromboxane A2 production has been associated with thrombosis, atherosclerosis, asthma and ischaemic events, and the pathway is the target of low-dose aspirin, which inhibits cyclooxygenase in platelets.
