Description

VMA ELISA Kit

VMA ELISA kits are used to detect Vanillylmandelic Acid (VMA) in urine and other biological samples. Vanillylmandelic acid (VMA) is the principal end product of the metabolism of the catecholamines adrenaline and noradrenaline, formed by the combined actions of monoamine oxidase and catechol-O-methyltransferase, with intermediates such as metanephrine and normetanephrine, and mostly excreted in urine. Its level therefore reflects the overall turnover of catecholamines in the body. Markedly raised urinary VMA is characteristic of catecholamine-secreting tumours, such as neuroblastoma in children and phaeochromocytoma and paraganglioma in adults, and it is often measured together with homovanillic acid for diagnosis and follow-up of these conditions. Because diet and some drugs can influence readings, VMA is studied in oncology and endocrine research.
