Description

ADMA ELISA Kit

ADMA ELISA kits are used to detect Asymmetrical Dimethylarginine (ADMA) in serum, plasma, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. ADMA is a methylated derivative of arginine produced when protein arginine methyltransferases modify arginine residues in proteins, which are then released during normal proteolysis. It acts as an endogenous competitive inhibitor of nitric oxide synthase, so higher concentrations reduce production of nitric oxide, a vasodilator that is vital for endothelial function. ADMA is cleared mainly by the enzyme dimethylarginine dimethylaminohydrolase and, to a lesser extent, by renal excretion. Elevated ADMA levels have been associated with endothelial dysfunction, hypertension, atherosclerosis, diabetes, renal failure and pre-eclampsia, and the molecule is widely studied as a marker and possible mediator of cardiovascular and metabolic disease risk.
