Description

Avian bHB ELISA Kit

Avian bHB ELISA kits are used to detect Beta-Hydroxybutyric Acid (bHB) in serum, plasma, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. Beta-hydroxybutyrate is the most abundant ketone body in the circulation, produced mainly by the liver from fatty acids through the formation of acetyl-CoA and acetoacetate. It is released into the blood during fasting, prolonged exercise, low-carbohydrate diets and uncontrolled diabetes, and is used as an alternative fuel by the brain, heart and skeletal muscle when glucose is scarce. Beyond its role in energy metabolism, it also acts as a signalling molecule, including as an inhibitor of histone deacetylases. Concentrations of bHB are a standard indicator of ketosis, and markedly elevated values may signal diabetic ketoacidosis in people or ketosis and negative energy balance in dairy cattle.
