Description

Bovine alpha1M ELISA Kit

Bovine alpha1M ELISA kits are used to detect Alpha-1-Microglobulin/Bikunin Precursor (alpha1M) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. alpha1M is the alpha-1-microglobulin portion of the AMBP precursor protein, which is cleaved to release this lipocalin together with the protease inhibitor bikunin. It is synthesised mainly in the liver and circulates in blood, with some bound to other plasma proteins. Alpha-1-microglobulin acts as an antioxidant and tissue repair protein, with reductase, heme-binding and radical-scavenging activity. It binds and degrades free heme, reduces methemoglobin and protects red cells and renal tubule cells from oxidative damage, and it also helps preserve mitochondrial redox balance. Because it is small and is filtered at the glomerulus, then reabsorbed in the proximal tubule, urinary alpha1M is used as a marker of tubular dysfunction.
