Description

Bovine alpha2M ELISA Kit

Bovine alpha2M ELISA kits are used to detect Alpha-2-Macroglobulin (alpha2M) in serum, plasma, urine and other biological samples. alpha2M, or alpha-2-macroglobulin, is a large homotetrameric plasma glycoprotein made mainly by the liver and also by macrophages, fibroblasts and other cells, and it is among the most abundant proteins in plasma. It is a broad-spectrum protease inhibitor that works by trapping: when a protease cleaves its bait region, a conformational change encloses the enzyme, and an internal thioester bond covalently links the protein to the protease, which blocks access of large substrates. The complexes are cleared through the LRP1 receptor. Levels are raised in nephrotic syndrome and in some liver conditions, and altered levels have been linked to Alzheimer disease and diabetes.
