Description

Bovine DAO ELISA Kit

Bovine DAO ELISA kits are used to detect Diamine Oxidase (DAO) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. DAO, or diamine oxidase, also known as histaminase and encoded by the AOC1 gene, is a copper-containing amine oxidase that catalyses the oxidative deamination of primary amines to the corresponding aldehydes, with production of hydrogen peroxide and ammonia. Its preferred substrates are the diamines histamine and its methylated derivative, and it can also act on putrescine and cadaverine and, less efficiently, on polyamines such as spermidine and spermine. It is expressed in the intestinal mucosa, kidney and placenta, and serves to degrade histamine taken in with food or released locally, so it may influence allergic and immune responses. Low DAO activity has been proposed to contribute to histamine intolerance.
