Description

Bovine IgA ELISA Kit

Bovine IgA ELISA kits are used to detect Immunoglobulin A (IgA) in serum, plasma, saliva and other biological samples. IgA is the major immunoglobulin class in body secretions such as saliva, tears, breast milk and the fluids bathing the respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts, where it provides the first line of mucosal defence. It is produced by B lymphocytes and plasma cells, and the constant region of the alpha heavy chain defines the isotype. In serum IgA is mainly monomeric, whereas secretory IgA is a dimer joined by a J chain and carried across epithelia by the polymeric immunoglobulin receptor, acquiring the secretory component. It neutralises pathogens and toxins without triggering strong inflammation. Selective IgA deficiency is the most common primary immunodeficiency, and raised IgA has been associated with IgA nephropathy, celiac disease and liver disease.
