Description

Cort ELISA Kit

Cort ELISA kits are used to detect Corticosterone (Cort) in serum, plasma, urine and other biological samples. Corticosterone is a C21 glucocorticoid steroid synthesised in the zona fasciculata of the adrenal cortex from progesterone through hydroxylation at carbon 21 and carbon 11. It is the principal glucocorticoid in rodents, birds, reptiles and amphibians, whereas cortisol predominates in humans and many other mammals, although corticosterone is also present in small amounts in those species. Its release is driven by ACTH from the pituitary and forms part of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, which governs the response to stress. Corticosterone regulates glucose metabolism, immune function and behaviour, and acts as a precursor of aldosterone. It is therefore widely measured as an index of stress and adrenal function in animal physiology, behavioural and welfare research.
