Description

Dog FE ELISA Kit

Dog FE ELISA kits are used to detect Ferritin (FE) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. FE refers to ferritin, the main intracellular iron storage protein, which is found in nearly all cells and especially in the liver, spleen and bone marrow. Ferritin is a hollow shell assembled from 24 heavy and light subunits and can hold several thousand iron atoms in a safe, soluble and non-toxic form. The heavy chain has ferroxidase activity that converts ferrous iron to the ferric form for storage, while the light chain aids storage. A small amount of ferritin circulates in plasma, and its concentration reflects body iron stores: low levels indicate iron deficiency, while raised levels may reflect iron overload, but also inflammation, infection, liver disease or cancer, because ferritin is an acute-phase protein.
