Description

Dog LTF ELISA Kit

Dog LTF ELISA kits are used to detect Lactoferrin (LTF) in serum, plasma, milk and other biological samples. LTF, or lactoferrin (lactotransferrin), is an iron-binding glycoprotein of the transferrin family that can bind two Fe(3+) ions together with an anion such as bicarbonate. It is a major protein of breast milk and is also found in tears, saliva and other mucosal secretions, and it is stored in the secondary granules of neutrophils and released on activation. Lactoferrin has multiple functions: its antimicrobial activity includes bacteriostasis through sequestration of iron, direct damage to microbial membranes and antiviral effects, and it also modulates immune responses and inflammation. Raised lactoferrin levels have been associated with inflammatory conditions, particularly inflammatory bowel disease, where it is released from neutrophils, and with infection, so it is studied in mucosal immunity and gut inflammation.
