UniProt Protein Function: | ELK3: a transcription factor of the ETS-domain transcription factor family and the ternary complex factor (TCF) subfamily. May be a negative regulator of transcription but can activate transcription when co expressed with Ras, Src or Mos. Activated by signal-induced phosphorylation; studies in rodents suggest that it is a transcriptional inhibitor in the absence of Ras, but activates transcription when Ras is present. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:DNA-binding; Transcription factor Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 12q23 Cellular Component: intracellular membrane-bound organelle; mitochondrion; nucleoplasm; nucleus Molecular Function:protein binding; purine-rich negative regulatory element binding; transcription corepressor activity Biological Process: cell differentiation; negative regulation of transcription, DNA-dependent; positive regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; signal transduction |
NCBI Summary: | This gene encodes a member of the ETS-domain transcription factor family and the ternary complex factor (TCF) subfamily. Proteins in this subfamily regulate transcription when recruited by serum response factor to bind to serum response elements. This protein is activated by signal-induced phosphorylation; studies in rodents suggest that it is a transcriptional inhibitor in the absence of Ras, but activates transcription when Ras is present. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2015] |
