Description

F-E3 ELISA Kit

F-E3 ELISA kits are used to detect Free Estriol (F-E3) in serum, plasma, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. F-E3, free estriol, is the unconjugated and biologically active fraction of estriol, a steroid estrogen. Estriol is the weakest of the three major estrogens in non-pregnant individuals, but its production rises greatly during pregnancy, when it is synthesized by the placenta from precursors supplied by the fetal adrenal gland and liver. Most circulating estriol is conjugated to sulfate or glucuronide, and only a small free fraction is available to bind estrogen receptors. Because its production depends on the fetal-placental unit, free estriol levels in maternal blood have been used as an indicator of fetal and placental well-being, and low levels have been associated with fetal growth restriction and some chromosomal abnormalities, including in combination with other markers in prenatal screening.
