Description

Human ADM ELISA Kit

Human ADM ELISA kits are used to detect Adrenomedullin (ADM) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. ADM, or adrenomedullin, is a peptide hormone of the calcitonin family that is derived from a larger precursor together with proadrenomedullin N-terminal 20 peptide, or PAMP. Both peptides are potent hypotensive and vasodilator agents and are produced in the adrenal medulla and in many other tissues, including the heart, lung and vascular endothelium. Their actions relate mostly to control of fluid and electrolyte balance: in the kidney ADM promotes diuresis and natriuresis, both peptides inhibit aldosterone secretion from the adrenal gland, and in the pituitary they inhibit basal ACTH secretion. Circulating levels rise in conditions such as heart failure, sepsis and hypertension, so ADM and its stable fragment mid-regional proadrenomedullin are studied as prognostic biomarkers.
