Description

Human AGRN ELISA Kit

Human AGRN ELISA kits are used to detect Agrin (AGRN) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. AGRN, agrin, is a large heparan sulfate proteoglycan of the basal lamina, with its roles depending on alternative splicing and proteolytic processing. The secreted form released from motor neurons is central to forming and maintaining the neuromuscular junction: it binds LRP4 on muscle to activate the kinase MUSK, driving clustering of acetylcholine receptors in the postsynaptic membrane and postsynaptic differentiation. A transmembrane form is predominant in brain neurons, where it induces dendritic filopodia and synapse formation, and agrin also modulates neuronal calcium, regulates neurite outgrowth and promotes cartilage formation through alpha-dystroglycan binding and SOX9. Variants cause congenital myasthenic syndrome with defects at both pre- and postsynaptic sites.
