Description

Human apoTf ELISA Kit

Human apoTf ELISA kits are used to detect Apotransferrin (apoTf) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. Apotransferrin is the iron-free form of transferrin, the major iron-binding glycoprotein of plasma, which is produced primarily by the liver. When it picks up ferric iron, for example from intestinal absorption or from macrophages recycling haem iron, it becomes monoferric or diferric transferrin and carries the metal to cells that express the transferrin receptor. After the iron is released within endosomes, apotransferrin returns to the circulation to be used again. In addition to transport, apotransferrin helps limit free iron available to microbes and reduces iron-driven oxidative damage. The proportion of apotransferrin relative to iron-saturated forms reflects iron status, and it has been studied in iron deficiency, iron overload, chronic disease and neurological conditions.
