Description

Human ARG1 ELISA Kit

Human ARG1 ELISA kits are used to detect Arginase I (ARG1) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. ARG1 (arginase 1) is a manganese-dependent enzyme that catalyses the final step of the urea cycle, hydrolysing L-arginine into urea and L-ornithine, and it is expressed mainly in the cytosol of liver cells, with smaller amounts in the kidney. This reaction removes waste nitrogen and supplies ornithine, a precursor for proline and polyamines. In other cells, particularly myeloid cells, ARG1 helps regulate arginine availability, competes with nitric oxide synthase for the substrate and can dampen T-cell function when arginine is depleted. Deficiency causes argininemia, a urea cycle disorder with raised blood arginine and spasticity. ARG1 is also used as a marker of alternatively activated macrophages and myeloid suppressor cells.
