Description

Human ASP ELISA Kit

Human ASP ELISA kits are used to detect Acylation Stimulating Protein (ASP) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. ASP, acylation stimulating protein, is a small adipokine-like peptide generated when complement C3 is processed by factor B and factor D into C3a, from which the C-terminal arginine is rapidly removed by carboxypeptidase to give C3a-desArg. It is produced in adipose tissue, where adipocytes express the complement components needed to generate it. ASP acts on fat cells, binding the C5L2 receptor to increase fatty acid uptake and triglyceride synthesis and to promote glucose transport, so it favours lipid storage after a meal. Higher circulating levels have been reported in obesity, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, and ASP is therefore studied as a link between complement activation, lipid metabolism and metabolic disease.
