Description

Human BECN1 ELISA Kit

Human BECN1 ELISA kits are used to detect Beclin 1 (BECN1) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. BECN1, or Beclin 1, is a coiled-coil protein that plays a central role in autophagy. It acts as a core subunit of class III PI3K complexes that generate phosphatidylinositol 3-phosphate: the PI3KC3-C1 form is involved in the initiation of autophagosomes, while the PI3KC3-C2 form acts in autophagosome maturation, endocytosis and degradative endocytic trafficking, and is required for the abscission step of cytokinesis. BECN1 was first identified as a BCL2-interacting protein, and a caspase-cleaved 35 kDa fragment at mitochondria can promote apoptosis by driving BAX translocation. It may also contribute to antiviral host defence, for example against Sindbis virus. Reduced BECN1 function has been associated with cancer and neurodegeneration, so it is widely used as a marker of autophagy.
