Description

Human CX26 ELISA Kit

Human CX26 ELISA kits are used to detect Connexin 26 (CX26) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. CX26, connexin 26 (gene GJB2), is a structural component of gap junctions, the channels that connect the cytoplasm of adjacent cells. Six connexin subunits assemble into a hemichannel, and two hemichannels from neighbouring cells dock to form a dodecameric channel through which small molecules and ions can diffuse. Connexin 26 is highly expressed in the supporting cells of the cochlea, where it helps recycle potassium ions and maintain the ionic environment needed for hearing, and it is also found in skin and other epithelia. Variants in the gene are the most common cause of inherited non-syndromic sensorineural deafness, with both recessive and dominant forms, and some variants cause skin disorders such as keratitis-ichthyosis-deafness syndrome.
