Description

Human DBP ELISA Kit

Human DBP ELISA kits are used to detect Vitamin D Binding Protein (DBP) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. DBP, also known as Gc-globulin or group-specific component, is an abundant multifunctional plasma protein synthesized mainly by the liver and belonging to the albumin gene family. Its principal role is to bind vitamin D and its metabolites, carry them in the circulation and act as a reservoir that influences their bioavailability. DBP also binds extracellular G-actin released from damaged cells and helps clear it, so it protects the circulation from actin polymerization. In addition, it enhances the chemotactic activity of C5a toward neutrophils and, after modification, can activate macrophages. Common genetic variants affect binding properties, and altered levels have been associated with vitamin D status, liver disease, trauma, sepsis and some cancers.
