Description

Human DSG1 ELISA Kit

Human DSG1 ELISA kits are used to detect Desmoglein 1 (DSG1) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. DSG1 (desmoglein 1) is a calcium-dependent cadherin-family glycoprotein that forms the extracellular adhesive link of desmosomes, the cell-cell junctions that give epithelia their mechanical strength. It is expressed mainly in the upper layers of the epidermis and in mucosal epithelia. Beyond adhesion, DSG1 promotes keratinocyte differentiation through its interaction with ERBIN, which reduces activation of the RAS-ERK pathway by limiting formation of RAS-SHOC2 complexes. Autoantibodies against DSG1 cause pemphigus foliaceus, an autoimmune blistering disease of the superficial skin, and the same protein is the target of exfoliative toxin in staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome. Inherited mutations cause striate palmoplantar keratoderma and severe dermatitis with allergies.
