Description

Human EMMPRIN ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Human EMMPRIN ELISA kits are used to detect Extracellular Matrix Metalloproteinase Inducer (EMMPRIN) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. EMMPRIN, also called CD147 or basigin, is a transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin superfamily that is expressed on many cell types, particularly on tumor cells, activated leukocytes and endothelial cells, and a soluble form can be shed into body fluids. It stimulates neighboring fibroblasts and tumor cells to produce matrix metalloproteinases, which promotes extracellular matrix degradation, invasion and angiogenesis. It also associates with monocarboxylate transporters, supporting lactate export and glycolysis, and it is needed for normal retinal development and cone photoreceptor survival. EMMPRIN additionally serves as an erythrocyte receptor used by Plasmodium falciparum for invasion. Higher EMMPRIN has been associated with many cancers, atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction, rheumatoid arthritis and viral infection.
