Description

Human ERFE ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Human ERFE ELISA kits are used to detect Erythroferrone (ERFE) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. ERFE, erythroferrone, is a hormone secreted by erythroblasts in the bone marrow and spleen that links red blood cell production to iron supply. After blood loss or other erythropoietic stress, erythropoietin signalling induces ERFE, which suppresses hepatic expression of hepcidin, the master hormone that restricts iron release, thereby increasing iron absorption from the gut and mobilisation from stores. It is also known as myonectin or CTRP15, and it has been reported to promote lipid uptake into adipocytes and hepatocytes, to protect cardiomyocytes from apoptosis and to influence bone remodelling. Elevated erythroferrone is seen in conditions of ineffective erythropoiesis such as beta-thalassaemia, so it is studied as a biomarker of iron disorders and anaemia.
