Description

Human FABP8 ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Human FABP8 ELISA kits are used to detect Fatty Acid Binding Protein 8, Myelin (FABP8) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. FABP8, also known as peripheral myelin protein 2 (PMP2) or myelin P2 protein, is a small cytosolic lipid-binding protein of the fatty acid binding protein family. It is abundant in the compact myelin of the peripheral nervous system, where it is produced by Schwann cells, and it is thought to bind fatty acids and cholesterol and to shuttle them for membrane assembly and myelin maintenance. The protein is also known as an antigen that can trigger experimental autoimmune neuritis, an animal model of inflammatory demyelinating neuropathy. Altered PMP2 has been studied in relation to peripheral neuropathies such as Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, and it has been reported in some tumours.
