Description

Human IFABP/FABP2 ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Human IFABP/FABP2 ELISA kits are used to detect Intestinal Fatty Acid Binding Protein (IFABP/FABP2) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. IFABP/FABP2 (intestinal fatty acid-binding protein, I-FABP) is a small cytosolic protein expressed almost exclusively in the epithelial cells of the small intestine, where it is abundant in mature enterocytes. It binds long-chain fatty acids, with higher affinity for saturated than unsaturated species, and is thought to help move absorbed lipids through the cell and contribute to the assembly of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins. It may also act as a lipid sensor that supports energy homeostasis. Because it is released into the circulation when enterocytes are damaged, raised IFABP/FABP2 has been associated with intestinal ischaemia, necrotising enterocolitis, coeliac disease and inflammatory bowel disease, and a common variant has been linked to insulin resistance.
