Description

Human GAL12 ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Human GAL12 ELISA kits are used to detect Galectin 12 (GAL12) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. GAL12, or galectin-12 (galectin-related inhibitor of proliferation, GRIP1), is a tandem-repeat member of the galectin family that binds lactose and is expressed predominantly in adipose tissue, with some expression in leukocytes. It is found in the cytoplasm and nucleus of adipocytes and is thought to take part in the regulation of adipocyte biology, including the apoptosis of adipocytes. Studies suggest that galectin-12 is induced by cell cycle arrest and that it can inhibit cell proliferation, linking it to the control of the cell cycle in differentiating fat cells. Because of these roles, galectin-12 has been investigated in obesity, insulin resistance and metabolic disease, as well as in the regulation of immune cell survival.
