Description

Human GARS ELISA Kit

Human GARS ELISA kits are used to detect Glycyl tRNA Synthetase (GARS) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. GARS, or glycyl-tRNA synthetase (GlyRS), is an aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase that catalyzes ATP-dependent attachment of glycine to the 3' end of its cognate tRNA via a glycyl-adenylate intermediate, an essential step in protein synthesis. It also produces diadenosine tetraphosphate (Ap4A), a signaling molecule involved in cell regulation, by condensing two ATP molecules, and so may contribute to Ap4A homeostasis. The enzyme functions in both the cytoplasm and mitochondria. Dominant variants in GARS1 cause Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 2D, an axonal peripheral neuropathy marked by progressive weakness and atrophy beginning in the distal limb muscles, and related distal spinal muscular atrophy, which makes GARS a leading model for how tRNA synthetase defects cause peripheral nerve disease.
