Description

Human GLO1 ELISA Kit

Human GLO1 ELISA kits are used to detect Glyoxalase I (GLO1) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. GLO1, or glyoxalase I (lactoylglutathione lyase), is a cytosolic zinc-dependent enzyme that forms the first step of the glyoxalase system with glyoxalase II. It converts the hemithioacetal formed spontaneously from methylglyoxal and glutathione into S-D-lactoylglutathione, thereby detoxifying methylglyoxal, a reactive by-product of glycolysis that glycates proteins, lipids and DNA to form advanced glycation end products. GLO1 has also been implicated in regulating TNF-induced NF-kappa-B transcriptional activity and in osteoclast formation. Reduced activity has been associated with diabetic complications, vascular damage, neurodegeneration and ageing, whereas increased expression has been reported in many tumours, where it may help glycolytic cancer cells survive.
