Description

Human HBd ELISA Kit

Human HBd ELISA kits are used to detect Hemoglobin Delta (HBd) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. HBd is the delta globin chain of haemoglobin, encoded by the HBD gene in the beta-globin gene cluster. Two delta chains combine with two alpha chains to form haemoglobin A2, a minor adult haemoglobin that, like the major form, transports oxygen from the lungs to peripheral tissues. Haemoglobin A2 normally accounts for only a few percent of total haemoglobin, because the HBD gene is expressed at a much lower level than the beta-globin gene. Measurement of haemoglobin A2 is a standard tool in haemoglobinopathy screening, since its proportion is typically raised in beta-thalassaemia trait and may be lowered in iron deficiency or alpha-thalassaemia.
