Description

Human HE4 ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Human HE4 ELISA kits are used to detect Epididymal protein 4 (HE4) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. HE4, the product of the WFDC2 gene, is a secreted glycoprotein containing two whey acidic protein four-disulfide core domains, first identified in the epithelium of the epididymis and later found in respiratory, reproductive and other glandular epithelia. It is regarded as a putative protease inhibitor and is important for lung development, where it is needed for terminal differentiation of club cells, the formation of lamellar bodies and cilia, and the development of alveolar epithelial and vascular endothelial cells forming the blood-air barrier. Loss-of-function variants have been associated with bronchiectasis and nasal polyposis. HE4 is also overexpressed in ovarian carcinoma, and elevated levels may help in monitoring disease recurrence and progression.
