Description

Human HSD11b3 ELISA Kit

Human HSD11b3 ELISA kits are used to detect 11-Beta-Hydroxysteroid Dehydrogenase Type 3 (HSD11b3) in tissue homogenates and other biological samples. HSD11b3, also known as 11-beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 1-like protein, is a member of the short-chain dehydrogenase/reductase family related to 11-beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1, and it is expressed in a range of tissues. In vitro it acts as a unidirectional, NADP-dependent cortisol dehydrogenase, converting active cortisol into its inactive keto form cortisone. Enzymes of this family regulate the local availability of active glucocorticoids, which control metabolism, inflammation and stress responses. Its physiological functions are less well established than those of the better known type 1 and type 2 enzymes, so HSD11b3 is mainly studied in glucocorticoid metabolism research.
