Human IDE / Insulin-degrading enzyme ELISA

IDE (Insulin Degrading Enzyme) encodes a zinc metallopeptidase that degrades intracellular insulin, and thereby terminates insulins activity, as well as participating in intercellular peptide signalling by degrading diverse peptides such as glucagon, amylin, bradykinin, and kallidin. IDE inhibitors are a class of drugs that have been developed to treat type 2 diabetes. The mechanism of action of these drugs is to inhibit the degradation of insulin by IDE, leading to increased levels of insulin and better blood sugar control.
