Description

Human IFA ELISA Kit

Human IFA ELISA kits are used to detect Intrinsic Factor Antibody (IFA) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. IFA, intrinsic factor antibody, refers to autoantibodies against intrinsic factor, a glycoprotein secreted by the parietal cells of the stomach that binds dietary vitamin B12 and carries it to the terminal ileum, where it is absorbed through the cubilin receptor. Two main types are described: blocking antibodies prevent vitamin B12 from binding to intrinsic factor, while binding antibodies attach to the intrinsic factor-vitamin B12 complex and interfere with its uptake. These antibodies are a feature of autoimmune gastritis, in which destruction of parietal cells leads to a lack of intrinsic factor and vitamin B12 malabsorption. They are highly specific for pernicious anemia and may be associated with megaloblastic anemia and neurological complications.
