Description

Human KLK2 ELISA Kit

Human KLK2 ELISA kits are used to detect Kallikrein 2 (KLK2) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. KLK2, or kallikrein 2 (also called human glandular kallikrein 2 or hK2), is a trypsin-like serine protease that is closely related to PSA (KLK3) and is expressed mainly in the prostate, where it is secreted into seminal plasma as an inactive zymogen. Glandular kallikreins cleave kininogen to release the vasoactive peptide Lys-bradykinin, and KLK2 is also able to activate pro-PSA by removing its propeptide, so it participates in a proteolytic cascade that liquefies semen. Its expression is regulated by androgens. KLK2 is elevated in prostate cancer, and measurement of KLK2 together with PSA has been used to improve the discrimination of cancer from benign disease and to predict outcome, so it is a recognised research marker in prostate cancer.
