Description

Human LCAT ELISA Kit

Human LCAT ELISA kits are used to detect Lecithin Cholesterol Acyltransferase (LCAT) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. LCAT is a plasma enzyme made mainly in the liver and secreted into the circulation, where it acts on the surface of HDL and LDL particles to convert cholesterol and phosphatidylcholine into cholesteryl esters and lysophosphatidylcholine. The cholesteryl ester is then transported back to the liver, so LCAT is central to extracellular lipoprotein metabolism and helps remodel HDL into its mature spherical form. It is also produced by astrocytes in the brain, where it contributes to the maturation of APOE-containing lipoproteins, and it can hydrolyse platelet-activating factor. LCAT deficiency causes diffuse corneal opacities, haemolytic anaemia and proteinuria, so LCAT activity and level are studied in dyslipidaemia, atherosclerosis and kidney disease.
