Description

Human LDHD ELISA Kit

Human LDHD ELISA kits are used to detect Lactate Dehydrogenase D (LDHD) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. LDHD is a mitochondrial D-lactate dehydrogenase, a stereoselective enzyme that oxidises D-lactate and other small D-2-hydroxyacids to the corresponding 2-oxoacids, but does not act on the more abundant L-lactate. D-lactate arises in small amounts from the methylglyoxal pathway in cells and from intestinal bacteria and the diet, so LDHD helps clear this potentially harmful metabolite. The enzyme is expressed in tissues with high metabolic activity, including liver and kidney. Loss-of-function variants in the gene have been associated with D-lactic aciduria accompanied by gout, in which D-lactate accumulates despite normal L-lactate levels. LDHD is therefore a useful target in research on methylglyoxal detoxification and inherited disorders of lactate metabolism.
